In the mid-2010s, Thomas Trott was diagnosed with a neurological disease called ALS Lou Gehrig’ Disease.
This disease targets neurons and nerve cells responsible for voluntary muscle movements such as walking, talking, and so on.
For Tom’s medical treatment and aid, the family began a go fund me campaign to raise $25,000.
The Trott family raised over $28,000.
Sarah also left her job as a journalist and began taking care of her father at home, full-time.
“I came to a major crossroads after quitting my job in TV news to become a caregiver for my father in his fight with ALS Lou Gehrig’s Disease. For as long as I can remember, this job seemed like my biggest dream and end goal.”
Sarah talked about her father’s struggle with ALS to Matt James as well. She said,
“Watching him trying to grapple with this disease and it progress and [him] not being able to express himself or to speak and losing the ability to talk, his voice changing over time, it was just, like, unimaginable,”

Sarah Trott Education
Born and raised in San Diego, California, Trott received her preliminary education in San Diego itself.
In 2010, Trott joined Scripps Ranch High School and graduated in 2014. While at high school, Sarah played tennis and track and field.
When she saw journalists on TV, she developed an interest in the industry. Following that interest, Trott became Editor-in-Chief for her high school as well.
After high school graduation, Sarah joined the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2014.
After about four years, Sarah graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism and Political Science.
Career
Trott’s career began when she started working as an Intern for Sarah Boot for City Council in 2014.
After six months, Sarah joined the Office of U.S. Senator Claire McCaskill, followed by working as a Marketing Assistant for Peachjar.
In 2014, while studying Broadcast Journalism at the University of Missouri, Sarah made a cut in journalism and joined KOMU-TV as a Reporter and Anchor.
While working for KOMU-TV, Trott also joined CBS News Channel 8-FKMB as an intern.
Four months later, in May of 2017, she joined NBC4 Washington as an intern.
In June of 2018, Trott joined KESQ, CBS Local 2, as a Weekend Morning Anchor.
However, she left this job to work as a full-time caregiver for her father.
After leaving KESQ in May 2019, Sarah began her own podcast called From Here to Where.
Similarly, in 2021, she joined Caregiving.com as an associate and later as a Digital Content Manager.
