Jon’s weight began to increase rapidly around age 10 due to water retention from congestive heart failure.
By age 12, he weighed 290 pounds, and by age 22, he weighed 392 pounds at six feet one inch tall.
Three years later, at 25 years old, he had almost doubled his weight to 700 pounds.
In September of 1976, he weighed a shocking 975 pounds, almost half a ton!
His bed had to be custom-made every once in a while because of his ever-increasing weight.

Difficulties He Faced With Being Overweight
Jon’s condition, known as massive generalized edema, caused his body to retain large amounts of fluid.
When his family took him to the hospital, Dr. Robert Schwartz, an endocrinologist, estimated his weight at over 1,400 pounds, with much of this being fluid. Jon was 37 years old at the time.
The Guinness Book of World Records recognized this 1400 pound weight as his peak and record-breaking weight.
The hospitalization process itself was not easy.
The process of admitting him to the hospital was challenging. A dozen firefighters and a special stretcher were needed to move him from his home to a ferry.
At University Hospital, staff joined two hospital beds to accommodate his size, and took 13 staff members to turn him over.

Jon Brower Minnoch Weight Loss & Death
Following a strict 1,200-calorie diet for 28 months, Jon lost 924 pounds, marking the most significant weight loss recorded for a human.
In July 1979, he left the hospital, weighing 476 pounds.
However, Jon’s weight later increased again, and he was readmitted in October 1981 at 952 pounds.
Despite his weight loss, Jon continued to face serious health issues, and he passed away on September 10, 1983, at age 41.
