The film shows the life of Tenzing Norgay, the Sherpa legend who, with Sir Edmund Hillary, was among the first to conquer Everest back on May 29, 1953.

Right now, in May 2025, Phuntsok’s out in Nepal, shooting scenes in Kathmandu and the Everest region, according to the NZ Herald.

Phuntsok’s Tibetan background makes him a natural fit for Tenzing, whose Nepalese-Indian Sherpa roots aren’t far off.

The cast isn’t insignificant as well. Tom Hiddleston will appear as Hillary and Willem Dafoe as Colonel John Hunt, the 1953 expedition leader.

Peedom, who knocked it out of the park with her doc Sherpa, is set to make Tenzing a love letter to Norgay’s legacy and a huge moment for Phuntsok’s career.
