Carrie Ann Edward was born in the middle of the 1960s in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. She grew up mostly in Timmins, Ontario, which is a nearby city.

She’s one of three kids. Her parents are Sharon and Clarence Edwards. She had two sisters, Shania and Jill. But in 1967, her parents got divorced.

Clarence said he left because Sharon was really possessive. He said, “I was married to Shania’s mother for seven years, and I was there with Eilleen and her sister Carrie-Ann until they were 5 or 6. I had a very stressful job, being a railroad engineer. On top of that, Shania’s mom was a very jealous, possessive person. She didn’t like me to do normal things like go out for a beer with my friends.”

Clarence said he left because Sharon was too possessive and talked about how the stress from the marriage caused him to have a nervous breakdown. He remembered being in the hospital because of it.

While he stayed in the hospital, Sharon began a new relationship. When Clarence got out of the hospital, she was already moving forward in her life with someone else.

Sharon took charge of taking care of all three kids and they moved to Timmins, a famous place for mining gold, which is around 500 miles north of Toronto.

Carrie Ann Edwards’ Ethnicity and Biological Father

Carrie Ann has a White background and a mix of Anglo-Irish, French, and Scottish ancestors.

After Carrie Ann’s mom married Jerry Twain for the second time, he officially became the kids’ dad, and their last names were legally changed.

Since Jerry Twain legally adopted Carrie and both her sisters, they also became part of the Ojibwa community.

Sharon’s Relationship with Jerry Twain

The mom of the three kids, after the family moved to Timmins, met her second husband, Jerry Twain.

Jerry was a miner and forest worker who comes Ojibwa background, an indigenous native community.

After they got married in 1971, Jerry decided to officially become the dad of all of Sharon’s daughters.

Later, Sharon and Jerry welcomed two sons together, named Mark and Daryl.

Jerry, who became the stepdad of the sisters, took care of them and looked after everything for them. However, things were not as good as it looked in the surface for Sharon and her kids.

Jerry Twain: An Abusive Father

Shania, Carrie’s sister, has talked about the tough family situations, violence, and not having much money when they were kids, but she talked about it many years later.

Just when things seemed to be getting better, their abusive stepdad came into their lives.

Sharon and Jerry reportedly had a very troubling relationship, imbued with frequent arguing and fights.

The sisters have recounted several times how Jerry, their step-father hurt them physically and emotionally.

Shania, the country singer, also said that she used to hide her breasts. She pressed them against her body and wore small bras or even two at a time. She did this until she didn’t feel feminine at all.

Jerry also reportedly threatened the sisters a lot.

Even though the family grew up in a hostile environment, they managed to get through everything. Some of the siblings, like Shania, are really successful in their jobs now.

Death of Sharon and Jerry Twain

Sadly, a terrible car accident occurred in 1987, claiming the lives of both her parents, Jerry and Sharon Morrison Twain.

Her mom was 42 years old at that time, and her stepdad was 40. They were buried in the Timmins Memorial Cemetery.

Shania Twain recalls the moment she received the awful news when was in a computer programming class at that time.

“My sister called me and informed me about their car crash. I just fell apart completely, just in shock for days, and I couldn’t let go of them.”

The news of her mom, Sharon Twain, and her stepdad, Jerry Twain, who had adopted her when she was young, passing away left her in shock for many days.

Even though their family situation was tough, they were still Shania’s family, all that she had as her guardians.

Even before Sharon and Jerry passed away, Shania had always played motherly role because her mom often struggled with depression.

She used to do chores like ironing her dad’s clothes, preparing everyone for school in the mornings, and managing everything after the hectic mornings once she returned from school.

When Sharon and Jerry died, everything fell on her shoulders as her older sister was already very busy with her married life and family.

However, Shania managed to properly take care of her younger sister, and half-brothers while succeeding in her career.

Carrie Ann Edwards’ Career

Unlike her sister Shania, Carrie doesn’t like being in the public eye.

Carrie, like her older sister, tried her hand in the music industry.

In 2015, Ann Edwards joined Shania Edwards’ show in Vegas as a special backup singer.

Shania talked about how Carrie encouraged her by saying, “You can do it. You can do it.” So Shania suggested they do it together.

Shania even made a video on her Facebook where she introduced Carrie as her new backup singer.

The sisters are very close and support each other a lot.

They’ve been through a lot together, and Shania often talks about her siblings and how they all help and care for each other in interviews.
