Caruso faced several challenges at the start of her journalism career.
While studying at university, she engaged in various internships to gain experience.
After graduating, she moved to West Virginia to work at a TV station named WSAZ-TV.
Although she worked there for about eight months, she felt uncomfortable working alone due to the nature of the stories she had to cover in unsafe places.
Eventually, she moved to Kansas to work for another TV station, WDAF-TV, where she finally had a work team.
Charly still had to cover violent crime stories occasionally. She said:
“Even though we covered crazy situations like SWAT scenes and double homicides, at least I was with someone and surrounded by other people. It’s funny because I wanted to be a crime reporter from the very beginning. That was initially what I saw myself doing in my career, and I minored in criminal justice… So, I thought that that was what I wanted to do…”
After a couple of years, she realized that crime journalism was not her calling. After much thought about her career path, Arnolt decided entertainment journalism would suit her more.
Soon, she moved back to Indianapolis to work as a sports journalist.
Arnolt said,
“That’s where I got to start doing sports and I was like, ‘This is it. I love this.’ It’s like the worst thing that happens is your team loses, but guess what? You play again next week, and people are watching you to be entertained, and they are watching you to smile, not to, you know, find out all the, you know, terrible things that are happening in your neighborhood.”

WWE Entry
In 2016, her close friend Tony offered her a backstage ticket to a SmackDown event, and being a huge WWE fan since she was young, she couldn’t say no.
At the event, she showed her resume to WWE’s senior director of talent relations, Mark Carrano.
Caruso was unsure about her career in sports journalism as it was just starting.
However, she was clearly making a big move into the industry. After a few months, Mark introduced her to Monday Night Raw commentator Michael Cole.
Cole was impressed by her talent right away, but there were no job openings at that time.
Eventually, when Brandi Rhodes announced she was leaving WWE, it was like a golden opportunity for her.
Charly did well in the interview and got the job, but she had already accepted a sports anchor role in Washington and had a hard time deciding.
Later, she took the role in WWE after getting advice from her friends and agent.
