Caruso had quite a challenging start during her beginning stage of journalism.
While Caruso was pursuing her further studies in university, she was also engaging herself in various internships to gain experience.
After her graduation, she moved to West Virginia to work at a TV station, named “WSAZ-TV’.’
Though she carried on with her work there for about eight months, she was not very comfortable with the idea of having to work alone due to the kinds of stories she had to cover in unsafe places.
Eventually, she moved to Kansas in order to work for another TV station, WDAF-TV, where she finally had a work team.
However, Charly still had to cover some violent crime-related stories from time to time. She said:
“Even though we were covering some kind of crazy situations like SWAT scenes and double homicides, at least I was with someone and surrounded by other people. It’s funny because I wanted to be a crime reporter from the very beginning. That was initially what I saw myself doing in my career, and I minored in criminal justice… So, I thought that that was what I wanted to do…”
A couple of years passed by and she came to a realization that crime journalism is not what she is supposed to be doing. After pondering over her career path, a lot, Arnold decided entertainment journalism would suit her more.
Soon, she moved back to Indianapolis to work as a sports journalist.
Arnolt said,
“That’s where I got to start doing sports and I was like, ‘This is it. I love this.’ It’s like the worst thing that happens is your team loses, but guess what? You play again next week, and people are watching you to be entertained, and they are watching you to smile, not to, you know, find out all the, you know, terrible things that are happening in your neighbourhood.”

WWE Entry
In 2016, a close friend of hers, Tony, offered her a backstage ticket to a SmackDown event and how could she not accept the offer being a huge WWE fan since a young age?
There, at the event, she showed her resume to WWE’s senior director of talent relations, Mark Carrano.
Caruso was not quite sure about her career in sports journalism as it was at its initial phase.
However, there was no doubt that she was making her big move into the industry. After a few months, Mark introduced her to Monday Night Raw commentator, Michael Cole.
Cole was impressed by her talent immediately but not a single job was vacant at that time.
Eventually, when Brandi Rhodes announced that she is leaving WWE, it was as if a golden opportunity came knocking on her door.
Charly aced the interview and got the job, but as she had already agreed to a sports anchor role in Washington, she was having a hard time making a firm decision.
Later, she took the role in WWE after taking advice from her friends and agent.
Before joining the WWE, she co-hosted a national radio show “The Bob and Tom Show” and also hosted her own web show “BackTalk Ball.”
